DOES PAPER NOT FOIL HOLD HEAT LIKE REGULAR FOIL?

Yes. Our paper foils are a thermal product. They conduct heat the same as foil and help your colour develop correctly. One of the benefits of using Paper instead of aluminium is it reduces the risk of chemical reaction you can get from using metal with colour.

CAN I PUT PAPER NOT FOIL IN THE LANDFILL?

Yes. If you decide not to reuse your papers and put them into the landfill, they won’t produce any toxic waste because they naturally degrade from UV. They do not produce toxic gas or micro particles when they degrade.

IS PAPER NOT FOIL RECYCLABLE?

Yes. You can recycle Paper Not Foil through number 2 recycling or soft plastic recycling systems. Like all recycling, please ensure they are clean from any residue before putting them in the recycling. Being able to be placed with your regional soft plastics or pick up scheme ensures our aim towards a circular economy.

In our manufacturing process any offcuts from Paper Not Foil will be made into more Paper Not Foil, producing no waste.

CAN I REUSE PAPER NOT FOIL?

Yes you can. You can reuse Paper Not Foil multiple times in the salon. Helping to reduce single waste. Then they can be reused for note taking paper, or as a weed matt in the garden!

IS PAPER NOT FOIL TOXIC?

No. Paper Not Foil is not toxic to the environment including animals, plants and even us.

IS PAPER NOT FOIL DEGRADABLE?

Yes. Paper Not Foil is degradable. It will start to break down in a matter of months from the sun's UV. It will degrade naturally into an egg-shell texture and continue to break down until a dust powder residue is left.

CAN I USE PAPER NOT FOIL LIKE REGULAR FOIL?

Yes, of course. We wanted to create a product that was sustainable, but that was also practical and easy like what we are all used to.

IS PAPER NOT FOIL MADE FROM TREES?

There are no trees felled or used in the manufacturing of Paper Not Foil.

WHAT IS PAPER NOT FOIL MADE FROM?

Essentially Paper Not Foil is made from stone (Calcium Carbonate)
82% -
recycled industrial waste from the construction industry (Mainly marble and tiles) bound together with 18% recycled, depolymerized, non toxic, food grade - HDPE resin, extracted from plastic bottle waste.
The resin has been degraded where the polymers have been changed and are already 80% broken down. This process allows PNF to be reused several times, reducing single use and then naturally breaking down through each reuse.
Paper Not Foil does not contain damaging micro particles or produce damaging micro particles.

We endorse reducing single waste and Paper Not Foil can be reused several times before being recycled.
Please refer to our certifications and information section.

DOES PAPER NOT FOIL SLIP OR BLEED?

We have not experienced much slipping with Paper Not Foil because it has a chalky texture which helps the colour and hair to grip together. But like any foil and colour application you may have this risk due to the texture of the hair, colour used or even how many foils you have in the hair.

HOW DO YOU WASH THEM?

You can simply wash them in the washing machine with your salon towels and capes or wash them by hand. A great tip is to have a bucket of water with a lid on it beside the basin, so when you take them out of the hair you can place them in the bucket to soak until ready to wash, this allows the residue colour to soak off. HOW DO YOU DRY THEM?

You can simply hang them to dry like your salon towels or capes, or you can put them in the dryer on COOL for 10 minutes.

DO YOU HAVE TO REUSE THEM?

No, you don’t have to reuse your papers to reduce your waste. Simply using Paper Not Foil will help you to reduce your carbon footprint and help you and your salon to reduce toxic waste. However, we do recommend REDUCE/REUSE/RECYCLE.

IS IT DEGRADABLE OR BIODEGRADABLE?

Paper Not Foil is fully degradable because it naturally degrades by UV, not by organisms breaking it down as organisms cannot eat stone. Paper Not Foil will degrade into non toxic dust naturally within 18 months depending on the environment it is disposed of. (more or less light). It is completely non toxic to our environment.

CAN I USE A HAIRDRYER TO SPEED UP THE PROCESSING TIME?

Yes you can. You can lightly apply heat to your papers to speed up the processing time. Please do this to your colour manufacturing instructions. Paper Not Foil is a thermal product so it will heat up naturally once the colour is applied.

HOW WILL THESE BENEFIT MY CLIENTS?

It is way more comfortable for your clients than foil. It applies quietly, it is lightweight, when it’s removed it doesn’t pull on the hair and your clients will be happy that they are reducing waste too. We have so many testimonies of clients saying “They are so quiet, I can hear you!”

WHY DON'T YOU FOLD THE SIDES IN OR INTO PARCELS LIKE FOIL?

Colour needs oxygen to develop. In the beginning it may feel weird and different not having to fold the corners in or fold into parcels. But you only need to fold your papers up once. It will develop the same, it will perform the same and we have not had any complaints on having the sides exposed. Plus you can watch the colour develop and keep an eye on them. It also makes it much easier to remove from the hair.

DO YOU HAVE TO PREPARE THEM LIKE FOIL?

No. You can simply cut multiple at once with scissors or leave them at the length they come. If you choose to reuse them, the time it takes to prepare your regular foil is replaced by washing and drying, but it’s often quicker, just like your salon towels.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WASH AND DRY THEM?

As long as you want or as long as your salon allows. It’s faster to wash them in the washing machine then hang them to dry, than it is to hand wash. It’s really up to you and your salon on how you want to do it and how long it takes depending on staff.

IF MY PAPERS COME OUT OF THE WASH STAINED FROM A PREVIOUS COLOUR, WILL THIS AFFECT THE QUALITY OF MY NEXT COLOUR APPLICATION?

No. If your papers are clean this will not affect the quality of your next colour. Some of our Paper Not Foil salons use the stained papers for bold and bright colours and only use the bleached papers for bleach colours. But no, this will not affect the quality of your next colour if you choose to reuse them.

MY PAPERS HAVE COME OUT WRINKLED IN THE WASHING MACHINE, WILL THEY STILL WORK THE SAME?

The papers can come out scrunched up, but it's easy to just open them up, flatten into a pile with your hand and hang to dry on the clothesline or around the salon. Being slightly crinkled does not interfere with your colour placement. Once you get the hang of flattening and keeping them in piles while being stored it becomes very easy!

This means that Paper Not Foil does not pollute the air, rivers and drinking water reserves with any harmful chemicals.

* Paper Not Foil uses significantly less energy to produce, using renewable, solar or wind only.

*Paper Not Foil is made from a waste resource and can be reused and recycled in a number of ways. E.g Number 2 and soft plastics as calcium carbonate is a useful additive when recycling plastics. It can be returned and injection moulded into pallets; wrapping paper, wallboards and many other products.
There is no detriment to land, air, water or plant life. Paper Not Foil becomes a full circle product. (Closed circle) This all depends on local recycling and pick up agents in each country. As a company and brand we endorse - Reduce, Reuse and then Recycle in that order.
